Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938

This law entails that each firm that is not exempt must pay the national minimum wage. In addition, the act requires employers to pay time and half for overtime in certain jobs. It also disallows employment of minors in oppressive child labor.

This law affects organizational processes and polices in several ways. This Federal Law applies to firms that are engage in commerce, production of goods for commerce and for employees that are engaged in interstate commerce.

This law sets a bottom line for the wages that need to be paid to employees. In addition, it places restrictions on employment of child labor. The organizational policies should be modified in such a way as to include the cost of national minimum wages and overtime. In this context it is important to note that employee wages affect the fixed costs and the variable costs. In addition, they affect the price at which the finished goods/product may be sold. Further the cost of labor also influences the process selected for manufacture, the labor intensity of the firm's processes, and decisions relating to automation.
