REVISING ETHICAL STANDARDS FOR NSA
National Security Agency (NSA) is involved in mass collection of communications metadata which has been subject of debate on whether the metadata is public or private. NSA performs specialized activities to protect the information systems of the U.S. government and produce intelligence information. Of the many issues raised upon NSA, main issue is the warrantless surveillance. NSA is allowed at an Executive level to monitor phone calls and other communication originating outside U.S to a recipient in U.S.
Ethics in very basic terms define what is right and what is wrong. It is not necessary that ethical and legal ruling go hand in hand. It is not necessary that surveillances that are legalized are ethical.
The data which was gathered in the past is very different from what is gathered today. Earlier, gathered records revealed very limited information about a person. But today an entire mosaic of information is available just from data of phones. National Security Agency used a security program called PRISM to access the data of Google and Facebook users.
