My current employer differentiates between legal liabilities, ethical liabilities and industry standards in a number of ways. This is done by becoming aware of various federal and state laws, such as discrimination and equal opportunity employment. The individual has to know that if he or she discriminates against those based on age, disability and so forth, that they are liable for their actions by means of facing fines or jail time. These in some way do have ethics involved as well.
