A survey was conducted to investigate the relationship between a contaminant and the time elapsed since the opening of a new road through open countryside. The levels were recorded over a ten day period using monitoring equipment situated half way along the new road. The results are given in the attached table.

(i) Analyze the data using linear regression. Interpret the results from the fitted line plot.

(ii) Check that the assumptions have been met. Display and comment on the residual plots. Discuss the adequacy of this model for predicting contaminant levels. Do you think another model would fit better?
