Open Database invokes an interface that allows data from a database such as Microsoft Access to be opened directly into SPSS. Likewise, Read Text Data, allows data stored in text formats to be opened.
Display Data File Information shows information about the dataset in the SPSS Viewer. This includes: the Variable name, Position in the dataset, Label,Measurement Level, ColumnWidth, Alignment, Print Format,Write format,MissingValues,Value and Label.Most of this information is available inVariable View.
In SPSS, all the files are saved with the extension .sav. There are cases when the data could be saved in formats other than .sav.
Data entered using another program such asMicrosoft Excel can be opened in SPSS.
• Click on File → Open → Data... → click on the drop down arrow next to Files of type: to see the types of files that it is possible to open in SPSS.
