Focus groups:
A focus group is when you get a small group of individuals together in one room, and with the aid of a moderator, you ask them questions on a topic. Often, the focus group takes place in a room with a one-way mirror where the client is watching in real time the discussion. The moderator will try to get everyone involved in the discussion, and try to generate an environment where people speak their minds.
The data collected is rich in details, and could be classified as qualitative in nature. Since there is only a small group of individuals, the data should not be used to generalize to the population, but to enrich the researcher's understanding of their data.
