The process has supported the advancement of modernity which includes intellectual, scientific, biological and even technological developments. This collision of Christianity of Catholicism and Protestantism, modern science, modern capitalism, and the modern state, revealed multiple and diverse secularizations in the West. In light of the diverse ways society was changing, tolerance of diversity had to evolve with an increased level of acceptance (with evident room for improvement). Individuals were able to voice a diversity of opinion and religion became more personal rather than being imposed.
