I offer two ideas: use of antioxidants and music therapy! :)
As you research some alternative therapeutic treatments for Schzophrenia outside of cognitive and pharmocological treatments, the use of antioxidants is one possible course. Research from one article offers benefits:
Kut'ko, I., Frolov, V., Pustovo?, I., Rachkauskas, G., & Pavlenko, V. (1996). [Antioxidants in the treatment of schizophrenia (the correction of lipid peroxidation processes)]. Zhurnal Nevrologii I Psikhiatrii Imeni S.S. Korsakova / Ministerstvo Zdravookhraneniia I Meditsinsko? Promyshlennosti Rossi?sko? Federatsii, Vserossi?skoe Obshchestvo Nevrologov [I] Vserossi?skoe Obshchestvo Psikhiatrov, 96(6), 32-34.
The article reveals how 185 schizophrenic patients revealed a correlation in the intensification of lipid peroxidation (LP) in relapses of the disease. "It was manifested either in increase of blood serum levels of both malonic dialdehyde and diene conjugates, or in decrease of erythrocytes' resistance to LP mediated hemolysis." By applying antioxidants to schizophrenic patients, it promoted a decrease in LP activity "as well as improvement in mental state of patients. LP activity was high in the remission too. Determination of LP indices may have prognostic importance."
Antioxidants are known to reduce tics among patients and improve moods, too.
Another article looks at the antioxidant connection:
