    This is a great question! It is very important in social science to be able to understand data so you can accurately communicate its characteristics as well as determine if the you can confidently reach conclusions about the population the data was gathered from.

    Knowing the range of a data set can be useful as it represents the absolute high and low ends of your data set, but by itself it does not tell you about all the data in between!
