In most agencies or treatment practices, therapists will meet regularly for "staffing" sessions, when conflicts such as those we have been discussing will be processed. Even practitioners in private practice often retain a professional "supervisor" or mentor, and also meet with other private practitioners for this purpose. It is extremely important to always remember that the client's growth and well-being must always come first, so if the therapist has some intentional growing to do, it is best practice to do that on his or her own time, so to speak, not the client's. Are there any situations you can think of, though, when being able to refer out is not immediately possible? If so, what should the therapist do with his or her biases?
