Framing a clinical question is based on what evidence will be sought focused on factors such as: (a) (b) the population, (c) intervention, (d) comparison and (e) outcomes. The goal of evidence based treatment is to select and train potential student therapists and ensure that they follow manual-directed therapies, and perfectionism in initial assessments and high-quality follow-up and outcome measures. For example, evidence-based practice (EBP) is an interdisciplinary approach to clinical practice designed to offer practitioners and/or clinicians the best treatment intervention approaches. These practices are based on the following objectives: (1) to develop scientific methods that are subjected to scientific scrutiny as opposed to uninformed opinions, and (2) best practices that are compatible with the American Psychological Association (APA) ethical guidelines (Langer & Langer, 2000).
The goal of EBP is the integration of: (a) clinical expertise or expert opinion, (b) external scientific evidence, and (c) client/patient perspectives to provide high-quality services (Langer & Langer, 2000).

The second step involving finding the evidence is to search for formal assessment within a body of literature. Thus, theories can be beneficial understanding human nature (personality theories), interactions (Family theories) and thoughts (cognitive theory).
