    An air conditioner maintains a room at 70 degrees F (294.3K) when the outdoors temperature is 90 degrees F (305.4K). If its actual coefficient of performance, K, is half that of an ideal Carnot refrigerator, what is the value of K?

    Coefficient of performance of Carnot refrigerator = Tc / (Th -Tc)
    Tc=294.3 K
    T h = 305.4 K
    Therefore
    Coefficient of performance of Carnot refrigerator = Tc / (Th -Tc) = 294.3 / (305.4-294.3) =294.3 /11.1=26.51

    K = ½ of the Coefficient of performance of Carnot refrigerator = ½ (26.51) = 13.26

    Answer: 13.26
