Pair of forces and magnitudes
Consider a pair of forces, one having a magnitude of 20 N, and the other having a magnitude of 12 N. What maximum net force is possible for these two forces? What is the minimum net force possible?
Solution This solution is FREE courtesy of BrainMass!
The net force is the largest when the two vectors are PARALLEL.
Therefore the maximal net force is 24+12 = 36 N
The net force is the smallest when the two vectors are ANTI-PARALLEL.
Therefore the MINIMAL net force is 24-12 = 12 N
