Cosmic rays are highly penetrating radiations which are continually entering the earth's atmosphere from outer space and bombarding the earth on all sides with more or less uniform intensity day and night.
That is, cosmic rays are streams of high-energy particles from outer space, consisting of protons, alpha particle, light nuclei and gamma rays. They collide with atomic nuclei in the earth's atmosphere and produce secondary nuclear particles mesons such as pions and muons and these cosmic rays shower the earth.
