Hi. I don't need a complete solution to the attached problem; I need to understand just one step.

To solve the problem, I need the coordinates of the mass at time t. My professor gave me the hint that, if the l-rod makes an angle wt with the x-axis, then the coordinates of the mass are:

x = l*cos(wt) - r*sin(wt), and y = l*sin(wt) + r*cos(wt)

(those are L's, not 1's).

I have no idea how he extracted those coordinates from the geometry of the problem. If someone can provide some insight, I'd appreciate it.
