Question 1
a. Give five differences between hard disk and compact disk (CD) as media to store data.
Answer: Here are the five differences between a hard disk and a CD:
- Hard disk is composed of one or more magnetic disks known as platters that store data. Compact disc is composed of polycarbonate plastic where data is written and a reflective material on top.
- Data is written and read in hard disk magnetically. Data is written and read in CD using laser.
- In hard disk, the representations of digital data on its platters are the difference of magnetic states, which are created by a strong magnetic field. In CD, the representations of data are pits and lands, which are formed by the burning of the polycarbonate by using a high-powered laser.
- The storage material of hard disk is built inside the drive, so transferring the hard disk is bulkier as compared to CD, which is a separate entity from its drive.
- Hard disk as a storage device is more durable, can be accessed faster and can be written many times. A CD is not as durable as its material can degrade faster, is slower top ...
