What is Socratic ignorance? Give an example that relates to people today.

Socratic ignorance relates to the idea of knowing your own limitations. Socrates was considered by many of his contemporaries to be the wisest man of his time. In an effort to discern whether this was true he set out to find someone wiser than he was. What he discovered that while many people were more knowledgeable than he was about certain areas they tended to assume that since they know a lot about one area they were wise in many areas. Socrates took a different approach. He entered into conversations with people by declaring his ignorance and asking the person he was talking with to teach or enlighten him. Many times he found out that he already knew more than the other person, other times he learned from more from them than he had previously known. His wisdom was rooted in the practice of knowing his own limitations and being willing to learn from others rather than becoming proud of a little knowledge and resisting instruction from others.
