    This question isn't too clear, but I think what your professor is asking is if lawyers, contacting accident victims after a crash has occurred, would be in bad taste.

    In my opinion, no, it wouldn't be. You've got to assume that 50% of all persons the attorney solicits to are potentially the victims, and not the party who is at fault for the accident. The party at fault will simply throw the letter away, and consider it nothing more ...
