Here are a few things you might want to consider. I'm not sure if you're wanting Latin American History from a certain period, or just a general view. Therefore, I erred on the side of caution and gave you a more general view.
1. Philosophies that have influenced Latin American society include Catholicism, Marxism, pre-Colombian culture, and nationalism. Catholicism brought over from Spain (and in Brazil, Portugal) has, in Latin America, blended with pre-Colombian folk religions to produce a unique form of Christianity. Each country has its own flavor, though some overarching customs do exist. There is a fierce dedication to certain saints (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Mexico), as is also the custom in Spain, and Catholicism is openly observed and pervades the culture.
