From the Patriot perspective they are completely justified. England was imposing all kinds of restrictions on them. They passed the Stamp Act (1775), the Quartering Act and finally the Intolerable Acts, all of which violated the colonists "rights" of no taxation without representation. America had enjoyed freedoms that no other colony had ever enjoyed and this increased control by the British government was resented by most Americans. ...
