Though this program was opposed by the Democratic Party, Clay believed that these three concepts would create less of a dependence upon England and its surrounding areas. Clay's program became the leading precept of his political party, the Whig Party. This program remains one of the most historically noteworthy examples of government sponsored programs. This program is also believed to have harmonized and balanced the nation's agriculture, commerce, and industry.
