The unemployment figures of Belgium show a steadily increasing rate of unemployment. This is an important indicator because this reflect the failing economy of Belgium. Belgium has suffered rather severe, prolonged recessions early in each of the last two decades, which, given the government's insistence on maintaining very generous social benefits (including almost unlimited unemployment benefits), has led to much of the current day's debt levels.
