In the following discussion, the impact of rising energy costs on the food processing firm is highlighted. Further, for the same reason energy monitoring program is also initiated. Introduction
Over past few years, large fluctuations in the prices of energy have been noticed as the energy demand in comparison to other goods is inelastic driven by international political events and industrialization (Koiv, & Hani, 2012). In this context, the food processing and facilities 3 units, 2 in Malaysia and 1 in Vietnam will be analyzed by energy manager to produce specialty Asian food products that require considerable steam and temperature environments to process and package the food products. The study is conducted to know the purpose of energy monitoring program and will highlight the steps that needs to be taken to initiate this program. The study will also account the reasons for choosing to implement the energy-monitoring program over several other options that can be used in energy consumption management. Along with this the study will explore the resulting benefits of this research for food processing and packaging company in Malaysia and Vietnam regarding future energy decisions.
As food processing and packaging sector is among one of the largest manufacturing sector that consumes lot of energy. The rising cost of energy will affect this sector as energy is an important cost of input for this industry. In food manufacturing company, the important fuel used are the purchased electricity, coal and natural gas thus, energy manager have to initiate an energy monitoring program for my organization (Elango, & Sundarambal, 2014). Energy monitoring is a management technique in which information regarding energy is used as a basis so as to eliminate or reduce wastage and control the use of current energy levels to improve the current procedures of operations. Energy monitoring technique follows the principle that "what is not measured cannot be managed".
