In short, conservation is the act of using natural resources in such a way that does not deplete the resource, but yet benefits humans. It does "disturb" the natural state of the resource. Preservation, on the other hand, is leaving a resource alone completely and free of human impact. These resources may be forests, but they could also be fossil fuels, plant or animal species, landscapes, etc.
