The glass ceiling is a real but unseen barrier that prevents women from rising to the top of the corporate ladder. This barrier is not explained by other job related characteristics, these characteristics are more at higher levels, the inequality in advancement, and the discrimination increases over the course of the person's career. There is a policy framework that improves gender equity. The policy translates in the form of laws. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act disallows gender discrimination at workplace. Title VII not only disallows gender discrimination but also allows victims of sexual harassment to recover damages under the federal law.
