The post-traditional family unit can pose a myriad of challenges to company career development plans, due to the differing structure that this family unit has in comparison to the traditional family unit. One major difference between the post-traditional family unit and the traditional family unit is that many of these family units are headed by a single parent, and that parent is responsible for providing for the financial needs of one or more children in many cases. Company career development plans must be adapted to fit the needs of these post-traditional family units, so that quality workers can continue to contribute to the company, and embark on a career path that will be profitable to the individual as well as the organization.
