Introduction:

A section of the stock market is evaluated with a method that is known as a stock market index. The stock indices are used to evaluate portfolios performance, as benchmarks. The United States is chosen, as one of the countries to speculate last six months stock indices performance. There exist three major stock indices that are widely used in the US stock market such as Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), S&P 500 and NASDAQ.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA): DJIA is one of the oldest US stock market indices. In the stock market, DJIA index is used to speculate the manner in which, 30 large and publicly owned companies of the US have traded throughout the trading period (Hart, 2005).
S&P 500: This is another stock market index that is used to track large number of stocks along with their weights. It is used to measure how common stock prices of 500 top public companies based in the US traded (Hart, 2005).
