For managers to be able to fully optimize all the links in the supply chain, they need to be able to make right decisions on whether to make parts or to buy them. To outsource parts implies that a company is acquiring these parts from external organizations while insourcing implies that a company is making the parts by itself (Tanriverdi, Konana & Ling, 2007).
