2. Lanni Products is a start-up computer software development firm. It currently owns computer equipment worth $30,000 and has cash on hand of $20,000 contributed by Lanni's owners. For each of the following transactions, identify the real and/or financial assets that trade hands. Are any financial assets created or destroyed in the transaction?
a. Lanni takes out a bank loan. It receives $50,000 in cash and signs a note promising to pay back the loan over three years.
Lanni has created a new financial asset as Lanni promissory note for $50,000. This goes as a financial liability in balance sheet for the Lanni. The cash received by Lanni is a financial asset.

b. Lanni uses the cash from the bank plus $20,000 of its own funds to finance the development of new financial planning software.
In this transaction, Lanni trades a financial assets i.e. cash for a real asset i.e. complete software. In this case, no financial assets are created or destroyed. It involved simple transfer of cash from one party to another party.

c. Lanni sells the software product to Microsoft, which will market it to the public under the Microsoft name. Lanni accepts payment in the form of 1,500 shares of Microsoft stock.
In this transaction, a real asset i.e. the complete software is traded for a financial asset i.e. 1,500 shares of Microsoft stock. If Microsoft is transferring the existing shares to Lanni, there is no creation or destruction of financial assets. However, if Microsoft is issuing new shares to Lanni, then the new shares issues represent the creation of new financial assets.

d. Lanni sells the shares of stock for $80 per share and uses part of the proceeds to pay off the bank loan.
Lanni trades one financial asset for another i.e. 1500 shares are exchanged for cash. Again when Lanni pays back the bank loan it gives one type of financial asset (cash) and receives another form of financial assets (promissory note). Since the loan is completely paid back, the loan is destroyed and the promissory note is destroyed.

3. Reconsider Lanni Products from Problem 2.
a. Prepare its balance sheet just after it gets the bank loan. What is the ratio of real assets to total assets?
Assets Liabilities & Shareholders' Equity
Cash $70,000 Bank Loan $50,000
Computer equipment $30,000 Shareholders' Equity $50,000
Total $100,000 Total $100,000

Real Assets / Total Assets = 30000/100000=0.30

b. Prepare the balance sheet after Lanni spends the ...
