Once again, senior leadership has proclaimed itself the followers of the latest management fad and expects the entire organization to immediately shift direction. You shake your head. You know that organizations in today's global marketplace are faced with a constant need to understand the forces affecting them and adapt accordingly.

There are a lot of things that I would like to say to my former colleague. First, that her organization needs not only to adapt to innovative technologies, but in some cases provide technological leadership if it has to compete; Innovation and innovation techniques are essential for organizations to achieve competitive advantage. This was the moot question when there was resistance to the adaptation of computers in several organizations. The firm could not remain competitive.

However, when a firm faces innovative techniques it causes anxiety and stress among employees. It means that you are moving into the direction of the unknown and you have to trust the company. If the technique proves to be inefficient your productivity and performance may suffer. You rightfully feel that the risk of adopting the new techniques is very high. However, you should also realize that the gain to be achieved if the technique works will be high also. If you master the new technique you may get better opportunities both outside and inside the organization. The innovative technique can be used by you as a stepping stone to success.
