Employee reimbursement schemes are extremely common, and is one of the most common types of fraud, second to asset misappropriation. There are several ways to determine if an employee reimbursement scheme is taking place. The most common way is to perform random checks on reimbursement forms submitted. If any particular employee is turning in a high number of requests for reimbursement,it warrants additional testing of that employee's forms. Otherwise, random sampling is appropriate. The employer does this by visiting the actual store or service that the employee has requested reimbursement from, in an attempt to answer the following questions:
