1. What are the major problems in the relationship between Wilson and Morota?
The major problems in the relationship between Wilson and Morota are that Wilson wants to break-even within a reasonable time and wants the joint venture to earn profits. On the other hand Morota is interested in improving quality, improving relations with its largest customer, reducing costs, and protecting its market share. In the short run Morota is not interested in pursuing the objective of earning profits. Morota feels that in the long run if it continues to reduce costs and improve quality, profitability will follow.

However, Morota is not able to give a time when breakeven will be reached. On the other hand Morota wants Wilson to invest more in the joint venture. The reason given for this is that Morota feels that higher investment will enable the joint venture to protect the market share of the joint venture. At the time the joint venture was formed Wilson had stated that it wanted the venture to be profitable within two to three years. At that time Morota had not objected to the profitability ...
