3. The High Cost of Organizational Change
The researcher has been asked by the VP to change the results and findings of the research that has just been done. Compliance by the researcher to participate in this unethical behavior by changing the findings would mean a breach of ethical standards. The VP has offered a brighter future for the researcher once he agrees to his request. This promise may be enticing but each coercive reward will always have a poor outcome since this unethical behavior is clearly a threat to the young researcher's professional reputation and so the reward becomes illusory. The researcher ought to be vigilant and he has to educate the VP on the real purpose of research and his role in fact finding as opposed to the company's role in decision making. He must be able to convince the VP that he is firm in his decision to keep his findings as is as he values the importance of being honest and truthful since distorting the truth would mean betraying the confidence and faith that the employees has vested on him and doing otherwise would also mean problems in the future.
