Joan has utilized her role as module manager to ensure that lower-level management upholds their position in creating a positive environment by being positive with her staff, and in the case of Joe, "praising his capabilities, telling him she really wants him to succeed, and pointing out that he has opportunities to move up." She has attempted to coach him to "show the good side she sees in him" and tells him he needs to change. In addition, she sincerely wants to support and help her staff. Joan has been effective in having group meetings to discuss problems and changes, and arranged a weekend retreat to further develop the group and create a positive environment.
