* Discuss how PepsiCo uses its talent to sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

PepsiCo is an industry leader in the development of its human capital through comprehensive and sustainable training programs for every level of the organization. By comparison to its competitors, PepsiCo is leading the pack when it comes to building its talent base. When analyzing PepsiCo, it quickly becomes apparent that the company has a strong rooted philosophy of developing their people and empowering them in order to allow for their ideas to contribute in the overall success of the company. This creates a fierce loyalty among the PepsiCo employees to the company that in return offers Pepsi a strong competitive advantage. Not only does the loyalty of the employees result in lower turnover and a high talent retention ratio, it also breeds an atmosphere of creativity and new and improved ideas at all levels of the organization (Tichy, 2006).

It is the culmination of Pepsi's commitment to the training of its employees at all levels and the encouragement of an empowered workforce that sustains Pepsi's growth and return on investment. In PepsiCo, as stated in PepsiCo's business strategy, talent sustainability is one of the primary components of success (Rooney, 2006).

In PepsiCo, the employees are the engine that drives the culture of creativity, ingenuity, and sustained success and that makes PepsiCo a very hard company to compete with. Managers and employees are encouraged and challenged to think outside of the box and look for improvement opportunities and to pursue new and creative ideas that are in line with PepsiCo's core values and business model which helps to also sustain a competitive edge over the marketplace (Kanu, 2008).
