Decision support systems (DSS) are "a computer-based system that enables management to interrogate the computer system on an ad hoc basis for various kinds of information on the organization and to predict the effect of potential decisons beforehand" - programs that provide information to the organization of how products are selling and which are the strongest selling products, also providing those products that are not along with other important information used in daily decision-making (Answers.com).

The advantages for management is to provide up-to-date data that allows them to understand the strengths and weaknesses in the products that the company offers, and whether or not the company is attracting the appropriate customers to it's location. Having this data can allow them to increase items that are the hottest selling products and reduce items that are not selling as well. ...
