Synchronous communication is synchronized between the parties. It allows more than one person to engage by speaking or otherwise engaging at the same time. If I need to speak with an associate in Japan immediately, and don't even have time to turn on a computer due to the urgency of the situation, I would use the telephone as my mode of asynchronous media communication. By utilizing the technology of a direct phone call, I can be immediately connected to my party. She and I can then speak interchangeably, that is, we do not have to wait for the other person to completely stop speaking for the other person to begin speaking. We can speak at the same time, and even include other business associates on the same telephone line through a multi-party conference call. Each person that is on the same synchronous telephone line can speak and voice their opinions simultaneously, with there being no delays.
