The purpose of a Gantt Chart is that it breaks down the individual areas of a project in order to allow for better organization. A manager starts by identifying the various tasks required to complete a project. It is always favorable for the project to be reduced to as many tasks as possible. The remaining part of a Gantt Chart is to include the timetable each task would require in order to be fully completed. It is important to note that some tasks will overlap, which is not a problem.
When discussing the project with management, the Gantt Chart will provide a breakdown of all tasks and will give a projected timeline for a project. For example, one task may be 'Assemble parts of sample'. This would be indicated on the Gnatt Chart, with a timeline of July 28-July 29. Management would therefore know that that particular task will require 2 days and will be completed by June 29th, and therefore, decision-making processes are facilitated.
A Gantt Chart presented to management, aside from whether a task is on time or not, offers detailed analysis of progress in terms of monitoring. A progress report to management can be presented detailing the technicalities of a particular task and the resources required for implementation. It also offers an overview of each task prerequisite. For instance, if we use the same task 'Assemble parts of the sample', previous tasks to this one will identify what is required in order to preform this task, such as 'Identify suppliers' and 'Construct moldings'. Presenting the chart to management allows a manager to place tasks in a cascading structure, starting with the preliminary tasks, to the more advanced tasks.© BrainMass Inc. brainmass.com December 24, 2021, 10:34 pm ad1c9bdddf>
