Many companies with operations in foreign countries are at a disadvantage, because bribery is the norm in those countries, but is not permitted by US corporations. Domestic companies that operate internationally are bound to the FCPA, and the government actively pursues corporations that violate the FCPA. Many large companies in recent years have been charged with FCPA violations.
