BP oil has long been famous for its public relations, in both good and bad ways. With the oil spillage disaster, BP realized the power of effective communication. It led to different communications channels being used by the company like official releases, press statements, morning-show interviews, etc. all of which were hits or misses. However none of the channels was as effective as it could have been in rubbing off controversies surrounding BP. One of the causes for the disaster was speculated to be reorganization. Reorganization took away company's ability to make good decisions; rather, organizations' capacity improved, but only to communicate bad decisions. When BP reorganized, it started reducing layers from the hierarchy to flatten its structure. As a result, the size of teams increased. However to make better decisions the number of layers should not be reduced and team size should be smaller. BP tried to fit one size on all; the result of which has already been witnessed.
