Mazlow's hierarchy of needs is a theory that is based on the assumption that if humans have their needs fulfilled at a certain level their new needs at the next level with motivate them to continue to move up the hierarchy. In Mazlow's work, the basic needs are physiological, food, air, water, sleep. The next level is security such as work and safe shelter.
