    Evolution refers to 'gradual' changes in the inherited traits of a 'population' of organisms that occur through successive generations. Evolution occurs when there is a 'selective force', which selects for the 'fittest' members of a particular species. For example, consider Bears and Panadas: Pandas are bears that have a specially form hands that is able to grab onto Bamboo trees (Selective force: Bamboo was the only source of food in the area that Pandas evolved, Fittest members: Those who had a thumb in their hands and were able to grab onto the bamboo leaves).
