TOPIC:

On February 19, 1999, Billy Jack Gaither was a thirty-nine-year-old gay man who worked at the Russell Athletics apparel company near Sylacauga, Alabama. He was brutally beaten to death, with his throat cut, and his body was bludgeoned with an ax handle before being thrown on top of a pile of tires and set on fire.

In the interview, Billy Jack's brother discusses what it was like for Billy growing up being gay, his denial of his sexuality, his religious interpretations of being gay and what that meant for the afterlife for those that choose a gay lifestyle. As well, his brother speaks of Billy's gentle nature-always defending those who were bullied, his coming out after he was 18 and eventually, his death through defending himself. Billy's brother also his reaction to his sister also being gay and to Billy's murder (Frontline, 1995, 2009).
