Hi,

I attached a comparison chart (Orthodoxy, Protestantism and Roman Catholic) along with the beliefs unique to Pentecostalism below, which will be very helpful in identifying religious elements to ask questions about and to make your comparisons to the Roman Catholic religion in the next section.

However, it is important to remember that the person you interview might deviate somewhat from what the chart or the belief section below presents, mainly because not everyone believes all aspects of a religion, unless of course, you are interviewing a minister. Together with the basic beliefs unique to Pentecostalism and the chart of basic beliefs of Protestantism (Pentecostal is a Protestant Religion), you will have an excellent starting point for this interesting assingment. It will be helpful in choosing religious elements to include in the interview data collection, in which some questions are posed below for your consideration. These basic religious elements are common to most religions and denominations in Christianity, although different denominations have a slightly different way of looking at each element. They interpret these elements differently, which impacts the religious denomination's beliefs, practices and forms of worship.

RESPONSE:

1. Compare and contrast Pentecostals and Catholic - I need to complete a 2000-2500 word paper on the Pentecostals and Catholic religions. I understand they are very similar but need help in this matter since I lack in this area.

This is an interesting research project! Have you chosen a person to interview yet? One way to decide on the kinds of questions you want to ask is to decide what dimensions or religious elements you want to compare the two religions within Christianity, Roman Catholic and Pentecostal (Protestant). Both are Christian denominations, but they have some major differences.

Your paper will follow the outline provided in the assignment. You will need to introduce your topic, and the name and location of the Pentecostal Church. You will then need to complete the interview and provide the results of your research findings, which you will then compare, your results with Roman Catholic. Finally, you will draw conclusions and provide references.

1. Introduction of the religion (e.g. Pentecostalism)
2. Name, location review of the site
3. Interview summary (e.g. results)
4. Comparing and contrasting with another religion
5. Conclusion
6. References

Now let's look at some information to consider for each section.

The Pentecostal movement within Protestant Christianity places special emphasis on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pentecostalism may be viewed as a subset of the Charismatic movement, which may also include some Catholic members who identify themselves as being charismatic, but these religious elements deviate from the mainstream Roman Catholic theology (as seen in the attached comparison chart).

"The Pentecostal movement is by far the largest and most important religious movement to originate in the United States. Beginning in 1901 with only a handful of students in a Bible School in Topeka, Kansas, the number of Pentecostals increased steadily throughout the world during the Twentieth Century until by 1993 they had become the largest family of Protestants in the world. With over 200,000,000 members designated as denominational Pentecostals, this group surpassed the Orthodox churches as the second largest denominational family of Christians, surpassed only by the Roman Catholics." 01-06 ...
