    Two graduations on the stem of a lactometer are 0.6 and 0.9. Find the graduation exactly midway between them.

    If V cm^3 is the volume of the bulb and the stem up to the reading 0.9, the weight of the lactometer = V * 0.9 gm

    Let l be the length of the stem between 0.9 and 0.6, and a be the area of cross-section,

    (V + l a) * 0.6 = V * 0.9

    or l a = v/2

    If R is the reading midway between 0.9 and 0.6,

    [V+(l*a/2)]*R = V * 0.9

    [V + (V/4)]R = V * 0.9

    From this, R = 0.72
