1. Explain the term Criminal Justice System.

A criminal justice system represents the cooperation or lack thereof depending on who you ask of the legislative, judicial, and correctional systems within a country. The legislature is responsible for determining what laws will be enacted and what behaviors will be banned or punished. The judicial works in concert with law enforcement to apprehend, charge, and convict those who are accused of violating the laws enacted by the legislature, and the correctional facilities are responsible for incarcerating those who have been convicted in the judicial portion of the criminal justice system. These are the three portions of a Criminal Justice System.

2. What is the main goal of punishment in the Criminal Justice System? Explain your position thoroughly.

The main goal throughout history has been to punish those who violate the laws of civil society and the social contract. Punishment is netted out to give victims a sense of justice and prevent the desire or need for vigilante justice on behalf of those who have been wronged by another person in society. It is a part of the social contract that the laws governing society punish those who violate the rights of others to ensure that peace is maintained in society.
