As you may know, drug courts resulted from the realization that, unless substance abuse ends, fines and jail time are unlikely to prevent future criminal activity. Consequently, drug courts, through frequent testing and court supervision, try to eliminate drug addiction as a long-term solution to crime. Drug courts can take many different forms, including those targeted specifically to juveniles (usually called "juvenile treatment programs" or "juvenile dependency drug court") and others involving only adults with felony convictions ("adult felony drug court").
