Write five problem statements and identify the independent or dependent variables. Explain fully the variables that led you to this conclusion about each statement.

The problem statements that will provided are predicated upon my own individual research studies pertaining to these phenomena.

The first problem statement is that the war on drugs has resulted in the destruction of minority communities. The variables associated with this particular statement is that since the beginning of the "war" on minorities, or better known as the war on drugs, minorities have seen their citizens incarcerated at rates that have risen astronomically. In the 1970s before the "war on drugs" was begun by the Nixon administration, there were approximately 200-300,000 people incarcerated in the prison industry. The majority were in there for violent offenses, but since the war on drugs has raged for over 4 decades, this number has ballooned to over 2 million inmates, with the majority of defendants incarcerated for nonviolent offenses. Therefore, the belief that the war on drugs has been a success is an oxymoron that is not true as it has destroyed the fabric of minority communities by incarcerating hundreds of thousands of young Black and Hispanic males thus depriving communities of their fathers, brothers, and providers.
