In regards to Westward Expansion, Oregon represents the fruition of Manifest Destiny, which was a phrase used to express the belief that the United States destiny was to expand to the Pacific Ocean and into Mexican Territory. The abundance of land in the West was the greatest attraction for many, and land ownership was considered an important step toward prosperity.
