Compare the involuntary migration of indentured servants and enslaved Africans to the America colonies. Identify similarities and differences.

Indentured servants were not liable to work for life but the slaves were forced to work for life. The indentured servants were given a plot of land or freedom dues after the expiry of their contract but slaves were not allowed to own any property. The indentured servants were given the freedom of movement after their contract but the slave movement was strictly restricted by slave codes.
Most of the indentured servants were whites while the slaves were black Africans. The indentured servants came to the colonies voluntarily due their desperate conditions in home while the African slaves were transported without their will or consent. Most of the Africans and indentured servants suffered terribly on the way to the North American continent. The indentured servants found difficult to adjust new climatic conditions, while the African slaves were immune to adverse climate and diseases. The trade in indentured servants came to a standstill in late 1700s but the slavery continued for a long period of time.

Identify two ways in which the economies of the colonies of New England, the mid-Atlantic, Chesapeake, and the lower South varied. How do you account for these differences?

The people in New England were good farmers and fishermen. They were also experts in shipbuilding and trade.
The mid-Atlantic colonists were farmers but they also concentrated much on industries. They were able to provide food for their own people and to send to the other colonies; the Middle colonies became known as the breadbasket colonies.
The New England trade was known as a triangular trade. The trading ships followed ocean routes that formed a triangle on the world map. The middle colonies imported European manufactured goods, but never developed triangular trade routes.
Chesapeake: Virginia and Maryland have good soil and had huge tobacco plantations. These colonies also practiced slavery. The southerners were not as wealthy as New England colonists because there was no proper urban development and industries. The economic disparities between the colonies late led to American civil war.
